Firefly-IR is an innovative, widely tunable, hands-free, mid-
and near-infrared laser source that brings new capabilities to a
host of molecular spectroscopy, remote sensing and imaging
applications.
Firefly-IR's broad mid-infrared wavelength coverage (~2.4-4.7μm;
covered with two separate tuning ranges) allows users to probe the
absorption features of many different molecules with a single
device. With a rugged, sealed, internal maintenance-free
shoebox-sized optical head, Firefly-IR is available with a choice
of six standard configurations: two tuning range options; two
linewidth options (<10 or <3cm wavenumbers); and two average
power levels of >250mW (Firefly-IR-250) or >60mW
(Firefly-IR-60) at 150kHz. Firefly-IR's correspondingly high pulse
energy (up to 2μJ) and peak power (up to 200W) also afford greater
detection sensitivity and standoff distances.
With a novel diode-pumped, intracavity optical parametric
oscillator at its core, Firefly-IR's high pulse repetition rate
allows for rapid data acquisition and real-time imaging. In
addition, unique Instrument Control by Ethernet (ICE) functionality
provides control, monitoring and easy integration of Firefly-IR,
all via an Ethernet tethered cable/LAN/ WAN or Internet connection.
Applications include: environmental and safety monitoring
(greenhouse gases, hydrocarbons, emissions reduction); security and
defence (infrared countermeasures, remote detection and imaging of
threat agents); mid-IR spectroscopy; oil/gas exploration; bio-
medical diagnostics (such as p.p.m. breath monitoring); LIDAR; and
eye-safe illumination.
